For many people, the upper legs become an increasingly problematic area as they age, while others find that the thighs remain stubbornly resistant to diet and exercise after massive weight loss. Fat cells, cellulite and excess skin can accumulate on the thighs, which makes people look heavier, older and less in shape than they really are.
Plastic surgery offers a potentially ideal solution in the form of thigh lift surgery. This is an excellent way to achieve firmer and more attractive thighs. This procedure is especially useful for those who struggle with excess loose skin as a result of weight loss. A thigh lift, or thighplasty, involves the removal of extra skin, fat and tissue to tone and refine the upper legs.

One technique used to lift the thighs is to place incisions in the groin, extending down and wrapping the back of the thigh. Extra skin is removed from the groin to the knee with an incision along the crotch. You may also qualify for a minimal incision on the inner thigh that involves an incision only in the groin area.
Liposuction will eliminate fat but does not tighten the skin. If there are already large amounts of loose skin, liposuction alone will not achieve satisfactory results.
An external stretch of the thigh will have an incision in the upper part of it. An internal stretch of the thigh will have a curved incision that is made in the groin area from the front of the groin towards the gluteal fold. If there is a large amount of excess skin, a vertical scar along the inside of the thigh may also be necessary. Scars can be visible in a swimsuit, even if they are hidden in the crease of the groin because gravity causes a small amount of scar migration. The scars are easily hidden in the clothes and will fade with time.
